El presente era

melancólicamente cierto,

¡oh Avalón!:

encontró el Santo Grial,

                                         el antídoto.

El futuro contiene

la certeza de las certezas,

¡oh justicia no-poética!:

Encontrará a Mordred,

antes,

mucho antes.     

Este poema trata sobre el paso del tiempo a lo largo de la vida, probablemente lo escribió Merlin para avisar al rey Arturo sobre la cercanía de su muerte . El titulo de dicho poema dice mucho sobre éste , nos da un anticipo del tema sobre el que trata , que es el paso del tiempo y la llegada del fin de la vida ; La llegada de la muerte.
